Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Melody contour

This picture represents the melody of the song. They show moving up by step, moving down by skip, and moving down by step

Children's Book:
Goodhart, P. (1997). Row, Row, Row Your Boat. NY: Dragonfly Books

The book has the music in the front. It also has ideas for making paper boats in the back. There are many new verses to the song in the book.

Using the key of C, have students play the downward skips with the song on C1, G, E, C on the merrily section of the song.

The same contour patterns could be used to accompany the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill. Look at what happens musically in the picture. Have students improvise on a xylophone with the rhyme.
