Dances from the Three-Cornered HatThe "Dances from the Three-Cornered Hat" is a suite by Manuel de Falla. Each dance uses tempo, tambor, rhythm and modality to musically illustrate the different people. The Neighbor's Dance is a slow, laid-back piece with long flowing phrases. The Miller's Dance starts fiery with a blast from the strings and horns. The Jota wraps up the other two in a jubilant finale . This could be extended by having students listen to other pieces that musically describe a scene or person (e.g. Aaron Copland's "Our Town").
